Cesca Chairs By Marcel Breuer For Gavina, Italy, 1970s, Set Of 6

Chairish

$6,712

Set of four Cesca chairs by Marcel Breuer for Gavina, Italy, with original label. The chairs show slight signs of wear, the seats are original Vienna straw. Walnut backrest, tubular chrome steel frame, and Vienna straw. Breuer's Cesca chair has spanned the entire history of 20th-century design. Its size and lightness make it a versatile model that satisfies the taste of all enthusiasts. Cesca is a comfortable, lightweight, and balanced chair without compromising on style. Born in Pécs, Hungary, in 1902, Breuer was one of the leading figures of the Bauhaus from a very young age, joining as a student at 18 and immediately becoming a teacher (from 1922 to 1928). Walter Gropius, director of the school, invited him to head the furniture workshop, and it was in this context that Breuer was able to carry out some of his most important experiments, combining art, industrial production, and craftsmanship. Cesca is undoubtedly one of his most successful works, together with the B3 armchair, later also known as Wassily. This piece has an attribution mark, I am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
