This is a chair from the 1850s. They are commonly called 'Deng Gua Yi' which means lamp. The backrest of these chairs is reminiscent of the support from which two lanterns were hung. This seat, sometimes called a 'yoke back' belonged to the wealthier classes. The chair is in very good condition. The varnish has a beautiful patina and is lovely to the touch. The armchair is an excellent eye-catcher in a boring corner or in a bedroom to throw your clothes on.
