Charlotte Perriand Chairs from "La Cascade" at Les Arcs 1600These are pine chairs designed by Charlotte Perriand for La Cascade, a collection of tilted apartments at the Les Arcs 1600 ski resort. Created in the mid-1960s, Perriand was responsible for every aspect of the lodgings, including the architecture, furnishings, and floor plans. The chairs are made from locally sourced wood and feature an angled seat and back, offering surprising comfort. They are in good vintage original condition.Charlotte Perriand was a French designer born in 1903. She studied at the École de l'Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris from 1920 to 1925. Perriand gained recognition for her furniture designs made from anodized aluminum and chromium-plated steel, which she showcased at the 1927 "Salon d'Automne" in Paris. She collaborated with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret until 1937, creating innovative tubular steel and system furniture. In 1930, she held a solo exhibition at the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM) in Paris, contributing to a movement that challenged traditional design organizations. In 1937, Perriand and Jeanneret designed a mountain chalet made of sheet aluminum, which was presented at the "Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne." 1940, Perriand became a design consultant for the Japanese Board of Trade and lived in Japan until 1946. Her designs from this period exhibit Japanese influences, as seen in her 1953 creation, the "Synthe'se des Arts."We have two chairs available, each priced individually.
