It was first introduced in 1869 by the Czech cabinetmaker Michael Thonet, and so far over 80 million chairs have been sold globally. Characterized by a curved and delicate silhouette, Chair 14 gained popularity in the cafés of Vienna, and thus became known as the "café chair".Chair no. 14 is still manufactured at the TON furniture factory in Czech Republic by traditional methods: the robust frame is crafted from six beechwood rods that have been bent by hand. Even though the chair was designed more than 150 years ago, its light and timeless design remain popular from generation to generation.
