This magnificently carved French Empire chair came from an estate in Tennessee. This chair features the most extravagantly carved mid-rail that we have ever seen, featuring classic egg and acanthus leaf patterns. In addition, the paw feet are perfect specimens of that neoclassical period. The chair is solid and sturdy. The patina is lovely. When we acquired the chair, the upholstery and seat were beyond shabby, so we have had the seat re-built and re-upholstered in a glorious red silk in a woven diamond pattern with a small gold diamond shaped thread (see last photograph). The chair is now truly ready for a museum – or, better yet, your home. The height of the crest is 37 inches from the floor, and the seat is 17 ½ inches high. The chair is 21 ½ inches wide and 21 inches deep.
