Stunning first edition pair of Taliesin Chairs by Frank Loyd First Edition Cassina, Numbered and Signed, in Oxblood Leather Seat and Cushion and made out of a single piece of folded plywood with brass details on the feet and back. Of note, hese chairs were re-issued recently in a very limited production (they were in fabric, considerably lighter and without the brass details) and the entire series was sold off almost immediately. In 1949, Frank Lloyd Wright designed the Taliesin 1 armchair, also known as the origami chair, for the Garden Room in Talesin West, his home-studio in Scottsdale. Constructed from a single piece of folded plywood, it is frequently called ‘Origami’ because of the way it recalls this Japanese art. The first reedition of the Taliesin 1 armchair was produced by Cassina between 1986 and 1990 - our pair was made in year 1986 and features the numbers 263 and 256 - under the guidance of Professor Filippo Alison, who studied the original drawings and conducted significant research in order to construct the perfect re-edition. In the beginning of his career Wright created furniture featuring classic forms and balanced proportions while he later on began to explore more sophisticated solutions in furniture design and experimenting with far more complex designs - the Taliesin 1 has a complex geometrical structure that ensures the stability of the chair.
