Gaetano Pesce “543 Broadway” chair for Bernini, epoxy resin, stainless steel, gum, 1993The eclecticism and genius of Gaetano Pesce are explicitly visible in his iconic "543 Broadway" chairs, designed for Bernini in 1993. This futuristic chair is composed of seating and back made of epoxy resin from injection mold, making each object a unique piece in terms of colors and their combination. During the working process, the colors merged with the resin with marbled transparent effects, always getting unexpected results. The structure is in stainless steel, with four spring-loaded feet and gum supports. The idea behind this unconventional detail perfectly expresses the Italian designer's strivings to co-exist functionality and aesthetics: the spring-loaded feet, in fact, allow the chair to swing and be flexible, meeting the movements of the seater, coherently with Pesce's idea of refusing everything is rigid and static.
