A restrained pair of German Biedermeier side chairs, circa 1820, in that timeless combination of light wood and ebonized accents. The upper handrails have an architectural profile with a gentle curve and a line of ebonized pinstripe. A central splat, shaped to resemble a lyre, is topped with a panel of birds eye maple over three ebonized lines to suggest the strings of the musical instrument. Currently the seat upholstery is a plain black twill fabric that is worn but acceptable to continue using as the internal structure remains firm and comfortable. Joining the squared, tapered legs is a rather unusual crossed stretcher of thin strips that have been gracefully shaped. The wood frames have been gently cleaned and polished to reveal the natural luminosity and are ready to join your interior. Please view the detailed images to see more. Sold as a pair.
