Pair Of American 1930s 'Cafe Society' Chairs
$15,000

These over-scaled chairs were said to have been designed by Chicago architect Sam Marx, but they were probably made by William Quigley, whose workshop and showroom supplied him with furniture. The sweeping lines of the back and seat, the white leather upholstery studded with nailheads, and the fluted mahogany legs, are a sleek riff on the George III style. The brass-rope handles allow the chairs to be dragged easily hither and yon.
