Primitive Windsor Wood Side Chair From The Clark Gable Estate – Christie’s 2006 Provenance

Chairish

$1,250

A beautifully timeworn primitive Windsor side chair from the estate of Clark Gable, sold at Christie’s “Film and Entertainment” auction (June 22, 2006, Lot 43). The chair features: • Solid plank saddle seat with natural age splits and early patina • Seven turned spindle back • Slightly flared rear posts • Hand-turned legs with stretcher support • Warm honey-brown finish with authentic surface wear The seat shows beautiful natural aging, including shrinkage lines and a central knot opening consistent with early construction. The underside retains its original structure. One lower side support rail is missing (as shown in photos), but the chair remains stable. This is not a reproduction — the construction, wood movement, and wear patterns are consistent with late 19th to early 20th century American Windsor examples. Probably dates from 1880-1910. A wonderful piece of Hollywood provenance blended with authentic American primitive character.
