Rare Pair Of Mid-Century Michael Taylor For Baker Mahogany Spoonback Slipper Chairs – All Original Black Leather & Brass Tacks
Chairish$4,499
For sale is a remarkable, matching pair of authentic Mid-Century Modern neoclassical "Spoonback" slipper chairs designed by legendary designer Michael Taylor for Baker Furniture, circa 1950s/1960s. These iconic chairs feature a stunning, architectural silhouette with a dramatic teardrop open splat and curved stiles crafted from solid, warm mahogany. Both chairs retain their original, authentic black leather upholstered seats, beautifully accented with a complete perimeter of classic, vintage brass upholstery nailhead tacks. Excellent vintage structural condition. The original black leather seats are flawless with no rips, tears, or cracking. The original brass upholstery tacks are all intact, tightly secured, and show a beautiful aged patina. The mahogany frames are sturdy with no cracks to the delicate curved back or stiles. The wood finish shows minor cosmetic vintage wear, including light surface scratches and minor dings consistent with age and careful use, which adds to their authentic mid-century character. No visible maker's marks remain, but the craftsmanship and design are unmistakable Baker quality. The dust cover cloth on the underside of one chair is loose in one corner, which can be easily re-stapled if desired, but does not affect the structure or stability of the chair. Dimensions: * Overall Height: 34.5 inches (floor to top of the curve) * Seat Height: 16" – 16.5" (low-profile slipper height, featuring a slight center crown) * Seat Depth: 21 inches * Seat Width: 22 inches (at the widest point)
