Unguis Chair by Henry D'athDimensions: D 60 x W 55 x H 95 cmMaterials: Wood, plastic.Piece is handmade by artist. An unguis can be a nail, claw or fang. The name speaks not only of the chair’s overall composition but also the relationship of its parts. The structure itself appears almost like exaggerated acrylic nails, painted in epoxy sheen. Beneath this lie bones of honest solid wood. The composure of the chair seduces, but not without being slightly unsettling. This back and forth suggests an unnerving yet cheerful existence.Henry d’ath is a new zealand born, hong kong based artist and architect. Using predominantly salvaged material, the artist routinely handworks each piece over many months resulting in lucid, yet ambiguously functional pieces of sculpture. Each work in this current collection is an individual edition in an ongoing series, hand made by the artist themselves.
