Beautiful McGuire bamboo rattan chair with rawhide bindings from 1978. The chair is incredibly high quality and in excellent condition. There is a slight discoloring on one of the top bindings on the chair. Otherwise it is pristine. Elinor and John McGuire founded the McGuire furniture company In 1948. Alongside the mid-century modern furniture designs then gaining popularity in the United States, John introduced an unconventional idea: traditional armchairs, stools and tables made of natural materials such as bamboo, which was strong yet could be rendered pliable when steamed, that were intended for the indoors rather than the front porch. The McGuires came up with a patented invention to bind the rattan with rawhide and added color to their designs, which became recognized as the most stylish rattan furniture on the international market—a standard that remains to this day. Dimensions: 17" x 22" x 34"h, seat 18"
