Set of two "Fledermaus" chairs (meaning "bat" in German), designed by Austrian architect and designer Josef Hoffmann in 1907. Originally conceived to furnish the legendary Fledermaus cabaret in Vienna—an icon of the Secessionist artistic avant-garde, with contributions from figures such as Koloman Moser and Gustav Klimt—the design was subsequently produced by the firm Jacob & Josef Kohn and, more recently, by Wittmann, which holds exclusive rights to faithful reissues. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history.
