1920s Or 30s 5-Light French Art Deco Bronze Patina Chandelier, Opalescent Shades

Chairish

$2,587

Offering an especially well-designed French Art Deco chandelier, the spare geometric design so appropriate to its period. It's made of solid brass, with a bronze patina, or bronze (it's quite heavy, so it’s possibly solid bronze). Five large (8" diameter) French opalescent glass shades, which glow a warm, fiery color when lit, complete its powerful, attractive look. You aficionados of opalescent glass know at a glance that these shades are at the apex of the genre. When unlit they show a hint of blue. depending on other light sources inside the room. The fiery opalescence comes roaring into play when they're lit. As things stand, this fixture has its original bronze patina. You might prefer it in brushed nickel? Or... polished nickel? Or shiny brass or chrome? Disassembling the fixture to have it re-plated would be easy enough; but the re-plating is something you'll have to explore on your own. Prices for plating have gone through the roof here in California, but there are people in less strictly EPA-conscious areas who can perform their magic at more reasonable prices. If you want the work done here in CA, think in the realm of $700 or more. People won't most likely be focusing on the metal components of this fixture, they'll be gawking at the five shades and asking "Wherever did you get THOSE?!" Rewired and fitted with American candelabra sockets (each can host a 60-watt bulb for a total of 300 watts of light). Insofar as it hangs by chain, the length can be shortened but the links would have to be cut. Measurements: about 22 x 22 x 28 long. The shades are about 8 inches in diameter.
