Chandelier In Murano Glass And Metal From Mazzega, Italy, 1970s

Chairish

$2,266

Ceiling lamp/chandelier, Mazzega, Murano glass and metal, 60s-70s – Italy Magnificent ceiling lamp or chandelier by Mazzega. The piece consists of a chain from which a gold-finished metal structure hangs, and Murano glass leaves that can be separated individually. Each glass leaf is exceptionally detailed. The interior has a rough finish—this creates a visual illusion, as they appear frozen due to their frost-like texture—and the exterior has a smooth finish. This interplay of textures creates a pleasing lighting effect. The leaf composition is closed, giving the piece a compact and elegant appearance. About the "granigliato" technique The frosted effect of the glass leaves is achieved with the granigliato technique, which involves applying small glass fragments (graniglia) to hot glass, thus ensuring that the small fragments adhere to the surface. When the piece is reheated, it creates the rough effect seen on the lamp's leaves. Another way to make granigliato is by using a fine metal mesh. Glass is sprayed over it, creating glass particles that adhere to the piece, creating the frosted effect. About Mazzega Like most companies, Mazzega's origins lie on the famous island of Murano, where master glassmakers work with glass techniques passed down from generation to generation. For over seventy years, Mazzega has been offering high-quality, long-lasting products, created with laborious techniques that give the glass a unique appearance.
