This large scale and curvaceous chandelier was part of the late 19th century style known as "Depart de Peche". The term refers to designs inspired by nature, or floral works of art and light. Chandeliers such as this were statement pieces in affluent homes of the period. These were considered to be not only sources of light, but works of art. I was told by an antique dealer the source is Belgian, but am not certain it is not French. It really sets the tone for Old world European interior spaces. The six individual lights, combined with the dome light provide plenty of light for any space. Frosted glass eliminates the need for a dimmer. The bronze is dark, yet the shapes of nature are very feminine and fine. What sets this piece apart is the laurel leaf like swag around the bottom dome.
