Model 2097/30 Chandelier By Gino Sarfatti For Flos, Italy, 1960s

Chairish

$3,204

The Flos Model 2097 30-light chandelier was designed by the renowned designer Gino Sarfatti and is a perfect embodiment of modern design. It consists of a central stem in chrome-plated steel from which a series of steel arms extend, each supporting a varying number of bulbs. Gino Sarfatti (1912–1985) played a key role in the history of Italian lighting design, in his dual capacity as both a designer and an entrepreneur. Born in Venice into a family of the city’s Jewish upper middle class, and a former aeronautical engineer, Sarfatti was self-taught in design, founding the company Arteluce in 1939 and personally designing most of the models in the catalogue. Arteluce was one of the very few Milanese firms to tackle the subject of lighting with a modern approach, distancing itself from the traditional styles then in vogue. After taking refuge in Switzerland during the Second World War to escape racial persecution, Sarfatti continued his relentless creative pursuit in the post-war period, conceiving light as an element designed to enhance architectural spaces to the fullest. In addition to designing more than 400 production models, he was awarded two Compasso d’Oro prizes (1954, 1955) and the Gold Medal at the 15th Triennale (1973). I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs, designer records, or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution, Up to 250V (Europe/UK Standard). The wiring of this item may be original and might need replacement, if not specified otherwise.
