Vintage Mid-Century Modern Capiz shell hanging chandelier sculpture in an exceptionally rare red and white colorway. Unlike the more commonly encountered neutral or all-white examples, this striking piece features cascading strands of translucent ruby red and natural Capiz shell discs that create extraordinary movement, texture, and ambient light interplay. The dramatic coloration gives the piece a far more sculptural, editorial, and designer-driven presence than traditional white Capiz fixtures. Suspended from a carved wooden canopy, the chandelier is composed of an abundance of delicate shell strands that create a remarkable floating waterfall effect both illuminated and unlit. The natural translucency of the Capiz beautifully diffuses surrounding light, while the deep red accents add warmth, depth, and visual richness rarely seen in vintage examples of this style. An exceptional statement piece suited for interiors ranging from Mid-Century Modern and Hollywood Regency to Organic Modern, Coastal Luxe, Bohemian, and eclectic contemporary spaces. The piece functions beautifully as suspended sculptural décor and possesses an unmistakably high-design, gallery-like installation presence. There are a tremendous number of strands included; many remain bundled in their original protective wrapping to prevent tangling during storage and transport. The illuminated image is shown for styling and display inspiration, demonstrating just one possible lighting presentation. The fixture currently does not contain installed electrical wiring or hardware. The carved wooden canopy features a central drilled opening designed to accommodate a variety of possible lighting or suspension approaches at the buyer’s discretion, ranging from pendant-style bulb installations to more ambient creative lighting concepts. Even simple concealed string lighting or soft spotlighting could create a stunning illuminated effect due to the extraordinary translucency and movement of the shell strands. For photography and display purposes, only a portion of the delicate shell strands were fully extended in order to safely prevent tangling and stress to the natural Capiz material. Additional strands remain carefully wrapped and secured for protection during storage and transport, resulting in an even fuller and more dramatic cascading presentation when fully arranged. Adding to the intrigue of the piece, an original Qantas flight tag remains affixed to the top canopy, suggesting prior international transport/importation and contributing additional character and provenance to the installation. Vintage condition consistent with age and delicate natural shell construction. Some scattered shell losses and breaks are present, consistent with age, movement, and the fragile nature of natural Capiz shell materials. Please review all photos carefully, as they are considered part of the description and condition. An extraordinarily uncommon and visually arresting vintage installation piece that is exceptionally difficult to find in this dramatic red and white palette.
