Futuristic metal chandelier type 21418 nicknamed "sputnik", produced by the czechoslovak company drupol in the 1970s. Drupol was founded in 1935 and originally specialized mainly in the production of agricultural tools, which is where its name comes from – an abbreviation of the words 'družstvo polního nářadí' (agricultural tools cooperative). Later, it expanded its activities to include woodworking and metalworking and became famous for its electrical appliances and lighting technology. the design of the sputnik chandelier is inspired by space objects – especially the sputnik 1 satellite. This type was produced in several variants, which differed in the number and length of the arms or the material used. Thirteen arms sprout from the central spherical base, illuminated by milk glass bulbs with e27 250v/40w sockets. the chandelier is in excellent condition and fully functional. All minor abrasions are visible in the photographs. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution, up to 250v (europe/uk standard).the wiring of this item may be original and might need replacement, if not specified otherwise.
