Sculptural, and with curved, fluted sides, this coffee table epitomizes Art Deco elegance. It’s quite possibly the design work of that American lion of design, Gilbert Rohde, which would handily explain its “furniture as art” quality. I have found one Internet attestation to this table’s being the product of Rohde, but this could be "one person's opinion." The glass top, apparently original, has a few minor scratches. There are very minor dings and scratches to the wood surfaces… it’s clearly been treated with respect over the many decades. Someone attempted to touch up a few spots on the wood but employed a darker, non-conforming color, as you can see in the photos. The construction of this table is formidable; it’s quite heavy. “Iconic?” Why not! This design brings to mind some of the most elegant French furniture of the Art Deco period. Ah, but it’s AMERICAN! Dimensions: the table measures 33 ½ inches wide, 21 ½ deep, and it stands 18 inches high.
