Check out this unique 1980s Postmodern (Art Deco Revival) style glass-top cocktail table with a geometric sculptural base. This is likely a studio-made, perhaps one-of-a-kind showroom piece. It has a thick beveled octagonal glass top for substance and elegance; those clipped corners just scream “executive penthouse, circa 1985.” The base is made of what appears to be cultured marble, which is a man-made composite, usually consisting of crushed stone dust mixed with resin and pigments, then cast into molds and polished. It became popular because it allowed the forming of bold sculptural shapes, marble-like veining, it was lower cost than quarried stone and was easier to move than solid marble. It also provided more durability against cracking than natural stone slabs so it made for the perfect material for ambitious 1980s furniture designers.
