19th Century Japanese Buddhist Temple Kyozukue Altar Table

A rare and magnificent authentic Buddhist temple table or kyozukue priest offering altar table from the mid 19th century. Born in Japan during the late Edo period, (1600–1868) the religious Asian antique having a rectangular ebonized wooden top with highly desirable overhang, above black and red lacquer decorated solid wood frame accented by gilded gold openings, all in a lustrous, warm patina, and adorned with engraved gilt metal plaques, scalloped shaped apron, rising on cabriole legs, scroll feet, integral base with bracket feet, raised atop an additional stand. Larger examples such as this indicate it likely came from a large temple. Circa 1850 Provenance: Acquired from the estate of a Houston Socialite who enjoyed a long career in modeling, both nationally and internationally. She loved and studied interior design and fashion, and was well known for her pristine style. Dimensions: (approx) 19.75"h, 34.25"w, 11.75"d Museum quality, superb original antique condition, with exceptional craftsmanship and rich detailing throughout. Finely hand-crafted, carved and laqueured, it's strong, sturdy, stable, and structurally sound, with beautifully aged patina over the whole. Minor age appropriate wear including slight losses to lacquered surface, only adding to the overall antique character, charm, warmth, and historic depth. A wonderful display piece, the highly decorative object can also be functional, ideal size and proportions for variety of uses, including as a low table, coffee or cocktail table, diminutive console, pedestal base, reading book stand, riser, side table and more.
