Prima Materia, is a project that ranges between art and design and explicitly refers to the Aristotelian concept of matter. For Aristotle the concept of matter (hylé) is associated with the concept of form (morphé) and both are closely linked to the concept of flux (becoming). Aristotle explains the concept of becoming as a continuous passage from power (potentiality) to act, where power is the expression of matter while the act is the expression of the form. ?So a child is in power an adult, while the adult is the act of the child, therefore metaphysically the adult is what the child was determined to be.In other words, the concept of becoming can be seen as a flow of continuous passages from act to power, which, however, is not infinite, but has two extremes: on the one side is the pure power; on the other is the pure act.Aristotle considers this pure power as the "prima materia" (prote hyle): the fundamental and uncorrupted substance from which everything originated. The pure act, on the other hand, has no potential and so is absolute perfection, so to say; what men identify with God, the fixed point from which every movement originated. The concept of ‘prima materia’ as pure power, such as the origin of everything, was of particular interest to the alchemists of the Middle Ages for their Great Alchemical Work (Magnus Opus). According to which it was possible, following the so-called wet way, to reduce every material to this original matrix, through an alchemical procedure called solve et coagula (dissolve and condense), divided into 4 different steps: putrefaction (Nigredo), distillation (Albedo), combustion (Citrinas), sublimation (Rubedo).
