Francisque Chaleyssin Francisque Chaleyssin (1872-1951) was an important French ébéniste (cabinetmaker) and designer, primarily known for his work during the Art Deco period. Chaleyssin was a leading figure in the Lyon decorative arts scene, serving as the chief administrator of the École des Beaux-Arts and president of the regional committee of Applied Arts in the 1930s. His furniture often features rigorous geometric volumes and clean lines, reflecting an architectural sensibility. He frequently used a synthesis of materials, contrasting the warm tactility of wood with modern elements like black Formica tops or brass accents and his designs are noted for high-quality craftsmanship and sophisticated finishes.
