Contemporary Coffee Table 'Cosmos' By Obstacles, Solid Oak And Ceramic

'Cosmos' Coffee Table designed by Studio Obstacles in collaboration with Spanish artist Yoyo Balagué.Dimensions:200 W. x 32 H. x 100 L. cm7.87 W x 1.26 H x 39.37 L. "Material:Solid Oak and Pit-fired Ceramic-----The Cosmos Table emerged through a collaboration with the Spanish artist Yoyo Balagué whose work with pit-fired ceramics became the starting point for the design.The intention of the project was to integrate this material exploration into a geometric language that could be applied to a piece of furniture. The two materials are brought together and catalysed by fire to form a union of wood and clay.All of the components of the table are chosen by hand. Obstacles works with European oak, carefully selecting sections of the trunk with minimal knots and unique grain patterns. Yoyo prepares the ceramics with a pit- firing technique and then brings them to us to make the final selection together.Obstacles emerged out of a desire to make objects that are deliberate. They believe in conscious simplification, following a process of geometric reduction that allows the essential quality of each object to emerge. This brand collaborates with a careful selection of Spanish fine woodworkers, maintaining close involvement with them throughout the design process. This partnership allows them to preserve their tradition, reinterpreting their knowledge to respond to a contemporary context.
