Nolwa reimagines traditional craft forms with contemporary perspectives. Our first collection is inspired by Bidri, a 600-year-old metal inlay craft form of India, featuring a mystical patination process. The Drop Table was developed working alongside craftsmen and designers, as an exploration of how Bidri would interact with a sensibility rooted in mathematics, geometric lines and abstraction. We invited Stephen K Molloy and Gunnar Rönsch, a German designer duo with a keen interest in patterns and the mathematics of nature, to apply their vision to Bidri. The Drop Table's parabolic base and Bidri inlaid pattern together represent a splash and ripples; those transient aqua features that appear on the surface of tranquil waters when raindrops falls on it. The form- active structure that supports the glass tabletop has been created with minimal metalwork, giving the product a crisp, minimalistic silhouette.
