I myself designed and oversaw the fabrication of this prototype of the Íkonos coffee table and it's been in my own collection ever since. My icon is affixed to the frame underneath the top. The Íkonos coffee table has a unique feature: When I was designing my kindred Íkonos all-wood coffee table – also listed on Chairish – I realized that the frame that I had devised for that table was unusual and, to my eye at least, handsome. So, I went on to design a glass-topped table that would celebrate this unique frame. The ½"-thick glass is very strong – you could probably safely dance on it. Its heft accentuates the table's dramatic gravitas. The tops of the table's legs are shaped to hold the glass in place and to accentuate their prominence. The table is made out of Cedrela odorata (Spanish cedar), which is a species which grows heartily in Central and northern South America. It grows so vigorously there that it's often used in reforestation projects – it's a very green choice! Unfortunately, its aroma cannot survive its curing.
