A supremely elegant example of postwar german decorative arts, this rectangular coffee table by berthold müller-oerlinghausen brings together handcrafted glass mosaic and patinated brass with a lightness that remains entirely contemporary. The elongated top — its corners gently softened — is surfaced entirely in an allover field of white glass tesserae set in a golden grout, their irregular, hand-broken fragments creating a restless, luminous texture that shifts under changing light. Scattered sparingly across this white ground are isolated accent tesserae in cobalt blue, cadmium orange, red, yellow, and black — placed with the casualness of a painter’s gesture, they animate the surface without disrupting its essential calm. the top sits within a continuous brass channel frame, miter-joined at the corners, its original warm patina deepened by age. Four slender tapered brass legs, each terminating in a small disc foot, support the composition with characteristic mid-century poise — their slight outward splay giving the table a confident, grounded stance while keeping the overall silhouette airy and refined. this example is in excellent vintage condition. The mosaic surface is intact throughout.
