A sculptural Spanish coffee table from the 1980s, attributed to David Marshall. Cast in mixed metals, the sinuous base interweaves aluminum and brass in a fluid, architectural gesture—part structure, part abstraction. An oval glass top floats above, revealing the interplay of texture and tone beneath. Rare, biomorphic, and unmistakably rooted in the expressive materiality of Marshall’s studio practice. Scottish metal artist David Marshall (b. 1942) traded a traditional life for a life on the road—riding a motorbike from Canada through Central America to Colombia, where he learned to weld in the mountains above Bogotá, and finding inspiration across all of Europe as he traveled the world in the 1960's + 70's and beyond. For the last five decades he has cast bronze and aluminium sculptures from his remote farm studio in the Andalucian countryside of Southern Spain. His coffee tables, wall panels, and objets are inspired by granite outcrops of the Scottish Highlands, the stone geometry of Roman ruins, and the lattice patterns of Moorish Spain. Marshall has amassed a following that spans the globe, from commissions with Christian Dior to public art exhibitions in Europe. Each piece marries real world functionality with the curiosity of a seasoned traveler. Condition: Very good vintage condition. The cast metal base shows a natural patina and oxidation throughout, highlighting the textured surface. Minor scuffs and marks consistent with age and use. The oval glass top was newly fabricated by our team of restorationists.
