Late 19th Century Chinese Export Painted Leather Chest on wood stand. Deep red paint on leather wrapped wood trunk/chest. The top is adorned in beautiful gold painted Chinese images of flowers, plants and a butterfly. The sides are more simple gold painted foliage. Interior is wrapped in leather and stamped with maker mark, the translation of which is consistent with those of the late 19th Century. There is a 1/4" piece of glass cut with smooth edges which sits on top. Could be used as a coffee table or an end table. A dark wooden stand is of more recent vintage, consistent Chinese-style legs. Original brass hardware. Leather has some warping, minor scrapes in finish in some areas, see photos. Condition is very good, wear is consistent with age.
