Vintage Japanese Keyaki Tree Trunk Table, 1960s

Chairish

$5,514

Monumental Japanese tree trunk table from the Shōwa period, crafted from solid keyaki, the Japanese zelkova wood loved for its lively grain, warm glow and strong character. The tabletop is cut from one massive cross-section of a tree trunk and keeps its natural, organic outline, with striking growth rings and a beautiful contrast between the deep reddish-brown heartwood and the lighter outer edge. Dimensions: height 35.5 cm, width 130 cm, depth 101 cm. Weight: approx. 50 kg. The entire piece is finished with a transparent lacquer, giving the wood rich depth and a subtle sheen while preserving its natural expression. The removable legs are also organically shaped, strengthening the sculptural character of the table. Today, this table works beautifully as a generous coffee table, low display table or calm central piece in a seating area. It pairs effortlessly with ceramics, ikebana, art books or a single object, while bringing warmth, mass and refinement to a minimalist, wabi-sabi, eclectic or contemporary interior. A rare and powerful piece of furniture where natural form, material presence and Japanese craftsmanship come together in a highly convincing way. Condition with light signs of use consistent with age and use; solid, well-kept and fully functional.
