American Classical Cherry Inlaid Server / Work Table, Circa 1820

Chairish

$3,750

An elegant American Classical work table dating to the early 19th century, crafted circa 1820–1830 and raised on finely turned spiral legs terminating in delicate ring-turned feet. The table retains a wonderfully refined silhouette, blending the restrained elegance of the Federal period with the emerging sophistication of the American Empire aesthetic. Constructed in richly figured cherry with contrasting lightwood banding to the drawer fronts, the case features three drawers with hand-cut dovetail joinery and original interior construction. A shaped gallery surrounds the top, adding both architectural presence and practical utility, while the rope-carved molding beneath the case provides a subtle decorative flourish rarely seen on simpler utility tables of the period. Originally intended as a ladies work table or dressing table, the piece would have served for sewing implements, correspondence, or personal effects. Its airy proportions and beautifully turned supports give it an uncommon grace, making it equally compelling in both traditional and contemporary interiors today. The back is fully finished, allowing the table to float beautifully within a room if desired. A quietly sophisticated example of early American craftsmanship with exceptional decorative presence.
