Italian Mid-Century Gilt Wall-Mount Console Table By Pier Luigi Colli, 1940s

Chairish

$3,990

An exceptional example of Italian decorative ironwork, this wall-mounted console table exemplifies the confident romanticism of mid-20th century Italian craft production by Pier Luigi Colli. The base is wrought from hand-hammered iron finished in a warm gilt patina, its surface alive with the characteristic peen marks of skilled artisan labor. The composition rises from a pointed arrow-foot finial through a fluted torch-form column — a motif drawn from neoclassical details — which branches symmetrically into a cascade of scrolled C- and S-curves terminating in volute flourishes at each corner. A secondary tier of scrollwork at mid-height adds visual rhythm and structural integrity. The piece is surmounted by a serpentine- shaped thick plate glass top with gently rounded corners, which rests securely within the cradle of the uppermost scrolls. This console sits firmly within the tradition of Italian ferro battuto (wrought iron) furniture, a craft elevated to high art during the 1940s and 1950s by Florentine and Roman workshops supplying the luxury interior market. The gilded surface retains a richly layered patina consistent with age, lending the piece an authenticity that reproduction work cannot replicate. A highly versatile accent piece suited to an entry hall, salon, or powder room. The console measures 34" tall x 11.5" deep x 49.25" overall width. The ironwork is 33” wide.
