19th C English mahogany Empire corner chair with an elaborate foliate head hand carved on the crest rail. Foliate heads were believed to be originally a pagan symbol related to nature and tree worship. Front legs have paw feet. Very solid and sturdy, the seat was originally cane, but was replaced with wood for stability. Velvet cushion is in very good condition, but is not original to the piece. We also have a matching settee and armchair listed on Chairish., see last photo. M5090 #3
