She tasked Schultz with the job of designing elegant outdoor furniture that could withstand corrosive sea air, season after season. Introduced in March 1966, the Leisure Collection, now called the 1966 Collection, was described by Schultz as “a breath of fresh air” for modernists. “Outdoor chairs should be enhanced by the elements,” he said. “Wind, sun, and rain should pass freely through, and they should breathe.” And breathe they do, all these years later.
