Model mp-91 / mp-163 “earth” offered here is an exceptional and very rare mid-century vintage leather lounge sofa in the brutalist brazilian modern design style. this 3-seater sofa – model mp-91 “earth” – also often referred to as model mp-163, was designed and produced in brazil by the renowned furniture manufacturer percival lafer in the 1960s and 1970s. percival lafer is a contemporary brazilian furniture manufacturer and a pioneer of brazilian modernism. this charismatic sofa is crafted from high-quality genuine leather (smooth leather). the seat shell is the same as that of percival lafer's well-known design piece, the “earth chair.” the frame is made of exquisite, solid jatoba wood. (an expert opinion from the thünen institute for wood research in hamburg is available.) special features include the beautifully patinated dark brown leather and the organically curved seat shell, which appears to float. It seems—and the angular, minimalist base. dimensions: 3-seater sofa: width 74.80 inches + depth 31.89 inches + height 35.43 inches condition the item is in good vintage condition with a few minor, insignificant signs of wear and age. these include superficial scratches, scuffs, nicks, and cracks on the wooden frame. the leather has an acceptable, normal patina—we think it has a wonderful patina—such as minor color variations due to light and use, scratches, and small areas of slight abrasion. these marks are slightly more visible upon closer inspection, but are not significant… we have treated the items conscientiously, thoroughly, and professionally with high-quality cleaning and care products. therefore, they are ready for immediate use.
