In 1990, after 20 years of making his own fine furniture, Edward Wohl began to produce cutting boards as a side project. The Edward Wohl Cutting Board (1990), with distinct shapes and materials, became a big hit. Each is made from a single piece of carefully selected bird's-eye maple for consistent tone and figuring, precision-shaped and beveled for graceful shape and balance, and finally sanded and oiled by hand. Due to their natural composition, these boards will vary from one to the next, exhibiting varied tones and grain structures - no two are alike. “I'm delighted to be making a functional piece that can be hung on the wall and viewed as a piece of sculpture," he says.
