English Baroque caned seat day bed, late 17th or early18th century. As the style would dictate, the cresting of the headboard is the fashionable Flemish scroll flanked by urn finals. Bold baroque turnings dominate the decoration of this enchanting piece. The side stretchers are particularly robust in what is sometimes called a bobbin turning. Likewise, the block and ring turned legs are substantial enough to support the mass of this long rectangular form. The most recent collector treated the day bed to a wonderful silk cushion and pillow in a soft red. This could be a great spot for reading or a midday nap.
