This antique Chinese daybed dates to the mid-19th century and features a woven bamboo top and a beautiful frame of chicken-wing wood (jichimu), named for its delicate grain resembling feathers. Crafted with traditional joinery, the daybed features round legs, gently curved stretchers and a beaded edge tracing the top. Known as "ta," this style of low-lying daybed was used throughout the Chinese courtyard home as a portable surface for reclining, playing games, and gathering for food and drink.
