This stunning black lacquer Chinese lidded bowl, adorned with mother of pearl inlaid snowflake designs, is the most beautiful example we have seen of these lacquered pearl "boxes" that were created in the 1980s. They seem to have been designed following an 18th century Qing Dynasty tradition. Of course, no two snowflakes are alike and each are exquisitely done. We acquired this "round box" in the 1980s at the gift shop of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It leapt out at us a a simply gorgeous object. Over the years, I have kept special photos and mementos in it. It is a great piece to own for any appreciator of vintage Chinese lacquerware.
