Authentic Victorian-era English copper 1/2 gill Rum / Grog measure. Used in the time honored tradition of serving a daily ration of rum to the enlisted sailors in most 19th century navies of the world. In the British Royal Navy Rum was mixed or diluted with water to make "the grog" which was then measured. The royal cipher on the front, 'VR 6' denotes its Birmingham 1850s origin. Not intended for culinary use, unless retinned.
