Old World 15" Rebekah Pitcher in Midnight Blue

Modern Artisans

$110

Stoneware Rebekah Pitcher in Midnight Blue Reminiscent of ancient pottery, the decorative Rebekah Pitcher features a style popular throughout antiquity, including Roman and Biblical times. Distinguished by a narrow neck and high handle, the pitcher style is today known as a Rebekah Pitcher, named for the famed biblical vessel mentioned in the book of Genesis and recognized as a symbol of kindness. Artisan-crafted in North Carolina, the vessel begins life as raw stoneware clay shaped on the artisan's potter's wheel, followed by the application of the sculpted handle and American-made glaze. The finished work is high-fired in a kiln to a strong, permanent finish. The midnight blue glaze color reveals subtle shades of deep blue, aqua, and earthy brown with a clean, glossy shine. If using as a vase, the pitcher is safe for water. However, the opening measures only 1/2" diameter, just large enough to display a few thin dried botanicals or 2 to 3 fresh flower stems. Standing alone, the pitcher is ideal as a meaningful, decorative work of art. Measures approximately 15" high.
