Chinese porcelain Qinghua xia bitong, a finely formed, eight-faced brushpot with concave sides alternating with flat sides, a blue and white glazed exterior, interior and inset base. The body of the pot is decorated with a freely drawn school of swimming shrimps amid seaweeds. A blue, four character, Hongxian, reign mark is glazed to the inset base. Circa Republic of China period. Xia: Chinese shrimp. Xia is a homophone for Xiao sheng, laughter. Also advanced age and longevity.
