Chinese porcelain Wang Dafan bitong, a nicely potted, square form, brush pot with shelf rim,and a white glazed exterior, interior and inset base. The sides are decorated with four, polychrome scenes painted by Wang Dafan, each with a Chinese poem in black, caoshu script: a rider on horseback with an acolyte on foot carrying various supplies, a scholar sitting at a table watching a young boy try to catch a mouse, two seated scholars playing go in a garden, an onlooker standing nearby, and two fishermen in a boat going down a stream. A red, Xi Ping Cao Lu mark in Zhuanshu script within a square is glazed to the inset base. The finely carved, Chinese, traditional, tree root stand is included. Circa early Republic of China era. Xi Ping Cao Lu: "Thatched Hut with a Hope for Peace", the studio name of the painter, Wang Dafan (or Wang Kun, 1888 - 1961), a member of "The Eight Friends of Zhushan" (Pearl Hill), an imperial kiln site in Jingdezhen.
