This is a large antique West Country pig salter which dates to the Victorian era. The salter takes the form of a large coopered barrel which is strengthened with iron banding and topped with a heavy removable lid. Made of well aged pine it is a solid and substantial piece which has a lot of character and rustic charm. The barrel has a large iron handle to either side and the lid is edged with iron. It would make a fantastic display piece in a barn or could be used in a pub as a table. The salter has a waxed finish with a fantastic depth of character to the wood. CONDITION This piece is in solid structural condition with many cosmetic marks of age and use. There are various areas of old wood worm damage which are no longer active. Generally in solid but very characterful and rustic condition. MEASUREMENTS height- 53cms width- 96cms depth- 71cms The measurements are taken at the widest points.
