An orientalist scene of exotic Asia, an elephant and rider appear in front of a group of Pagoda towers with a surrounding of sheep with the herder seated in front. A group of other exotic Asians in the scene stand in front and around the elephant. Palm trees reach into the sky with birds swooping by overhead. The whole scene is built of paper pieces set in tiers and braced by paper struts in the back. The background is colored blue with fine sand scattered over the scene. The measurements are 15.5" wide by 13.25" tall, by 2.75" deep Box is 19th century with glass. Very good condition, with noted loss of one head on a standing figure.( see detailed photos ) Attributed to Cornelius Bavelaar[1747 - 1830] Holland, circa 1800.
