A pair of gilded bronze lions, Nuremberg, circa 1500, probably originally used as the legs of a coin cabinet or cabinet that fit into the casting through the hole near the beasts' hips (a small metal plate is missing). Standing guard over the structure above (we can only imagine their importance), they have their mouths open, their tongues protruding, and their teeth exposed; their power is controlled by a collar with a harness attached to a flower on the back. The hair and the coat are finely chiseled, the former appearing braided and the latter spotted.
