The LCM (or Lounge Chair Metal) was part of Charles and Ray Eames' successful foray into molded plywood furniture in 1945. This particular model used nickel-plated tubular steel to support the molded wood laminate seat and back. The Vitra Miniature LCM is made the same way as the original chair, but stands at 1/6th the size.
