A pair of early 19th-century french faience tiles from the manufacture de l'autruche in nevers. One tile features a stencilled deer surrounded by trees and a fence, the other a stencilled rosette, both contained within reserves surrounded by circular lines. the edges are adorned with a frieze of blue dots and foliate ornament at the corners. The decoration employs a vibrant polychrome palette of blue, green, yellow and manganese. The combination of stencilled motifs with painterly brushwork lends a naive, characterful quality to the designs. marked on the reverse 'l.e nevers'.
